Electrostatic Induction

The production of a charge in an uncharged body by bringing a charged object close to it. It is known as electrostatic induction.

Electricity

Conductors: Allow heat and electrons to pass through it, electrons are loosely held in conductors

Insulators: They don’t allow heat and electrons to pass through it

Latent Heat

Latent heat (Joules/kg)

• Of fusion: The amount of energy required to change a unit mass of  a substence from solid to liquid
• Of vaporisation: The amount of energy required to change a unit mass of a substance from liquid to gas

Linear Expansion

The expansion in length of solid bodies on heating

 

a)Radiation: Transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves.

b)Convection: Heat energy is distributed by the liquid or gaseous molecules in circling currents

c) Conduction: Transmission of heat from particles to particle

 

Kevin Scale or Absolute Zero

Kelvin Scale or absolute zero, named after Sir. William Thompson (lord Kevin) who devised it.This temperature scale is often used when gases are involved. 

Its zero point (0K) corresponds to -273°C. Kelvin Scale, Freezing point of water is 273K and the boiling point of water is 373K.

Fahrenheit scale

The fahrenheit scale was devised by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit on fahrenheit scale, 32°F is the freezing point of water and 212°F is the boiling point.
